Module 1: ArcGis Pro Overview

As my journey in Geographic Information Science begins, I find myself gaining an even deeper appreciation for maps and data science. I definitely did not realize the amount of time and effort that goes into making maps before doing this introduction, but it gives me a sense of excitement to begin delving deeper into the aspects of GIS.

In this first week of GIS4043 we learned the basics of ArcGIS Pro along with how to prepare and navigate folders for our projects. Once gaining a basic understanding, I needed to move on to gaining access to Citrix, the workspace where all of the magic is done. Once I obtained access, the ball started rolling and while I had some moments of confusion, the process really opened my eyes to how maps are produced and the effort it takes to navigate through files and apps. Learning how to access the Help tool in ArcGIS Pro will be a major help in my success as it was, thankfully, another major focus of this week's learning outcomes. The final outcome of this first lab was a map that gives a visualization of the world countries and their major cities. The cities are defined by the black circles.

This first week gave me the opportunity to familiarize myself with proper file management, Citrix, and the ArcGIS Pro interface along with better understanding of the various panes and the vast amount of editing possibilities. While I am nervous about making mistakes, I know that slow and steady wins the race and as long as I take my time to deeply understand the processes, all will end in success.
